Two rivers in one with distinct differences above and below Missoula. The upper stretch snakes its way through big hay meadows and cottonwood groves and is accented by long rip-rap banks. Here brown trout explode from hiding to chase big stone fly adults and hoppers. In wonderful contrast, the lower Clark Fork is the ultimate big water experience, where pods of rising rainbows and spit-fire cut throats sip small mayflies or ferociously attack big attractors to make for an unimaginable fishing experience. |

Montana Fly Fishing with River Otter Fly Shop and Outfitters, Dry Fly Fishing Specialists Hecuba, Mahoganies,BWOs, Tricos Same as the last few, rising fish and dry flies........life is good!! The next few days will be great for fishing the Upper and Lower Clarkfork. Cloud cover and mild temps will keep fish looking up for you. Try dropper fishing in the morning until around 11 or so, then push the dries. Both the upper and lower stretches are good options, depending on the day. Cloudy days are better than bright sunny ones. Look for goldens, sallies and pmds to be the bugs of choice. Both the upper and lower streches will likely fish pretty well with droppers too. Hatches: Giant Golden Stones, Ants, Hoppers Now is a great time to do some gear inventory. If you need anything, feel free to give us a call or to try out our New Online Store!
