The "Big Blackfoot" is a headhunters dream. Early and late in the year its 80 miles of deep boulder strewn runs make this an unbelievable location for anyone who enjoys pitching streamers to over-aggressive, large trout. During the heart of the western montana fly fishing season this fabulous fishery's bottomless glacier green pools and shallow running riffles create incredible habitat for the big browns, rainbows, and wild native cutts who are willing to come to eat large attractors all day long.
March-April- Although it can be done, the Blackfoot usually stays around much longer than the rest of our waters. Winter rules apply for any fishing up here until post runoff.
June-July- Salmonflies, Goldens and Green Drakes begin the real first fishing of the year for the Blackfoot. For so long these fish have been waiting to really get going and the first bug bugs do just that. This is by far-and-away is the best time of the year to try your hand at Blackfoot Fish. It might very well be the best time of the year to see the giants that loom under those rock shelves.
September-October- October Caddis and streamer fishing really take over on the Foot during the fall. This is a nice quite time up here and the crowds of summer have departed and all those fish that have been a little leery in the summertime are way more willing to come eat our flies.
