Hoppers…Not just trout food

Soon the frog will be as hated as the wolves in the Bitterroot…they have slowed the August hopper bite by eating every hopper before the trout can get to them. The scary part is how many more frogs I see around than wolves. Two of these monsters in the boat today-seems they love pink hoppers too.
Hoppers are clicking, flying, and hitting the water…and for the most part the trout are willing to eat them. If you hear the hoppers, get ready-the fish in the area have seen them. Pink is still my go-to color these days, and don’t be afraid to throw the big one. Plenty of PMDs on the lower ‘root and a surprising number of fish on them. Nice and quiet out there today. Fire riverside along the MPG Ranch below Florence. Smoke is as good as clouds in my book.
